CompareRippling vs HiBob, side by side

HiBob implementation experts for mid-market people teams.

Strongest for companies of 100–250 people that need analytics, compensation and culture depth — with Bob Companion rolled out feature by feature.

Why we recommend it, and for whom

Three cases where HiBob wins. One where it doesn’t.

The people team is the primary user

HiBob is built for the people who live in it daily rather than for IT. If your HR lead is the one shaping the system, the day-to-day is noticeably better.

Analytics and compensation matter

Compensation review cycles, banding, and reporting that a board will accept. This is where HiBob is genuinely strong rather than adequate.

Culture is part of the product

Announcements, org visibility, and the parts of the employee experience most systems treat as an afterthought. It matters more at 150 people than anyone expects at 50.

10 – 100A simpler system does the job
The depth in compensation and analytics tends to go unused. We will tell you if you are early rather than sell you the ceiling.
100 – 250Where HiBob is strongest
The people team is the primary user, and compensation, analytics and employee experience are what the system is being bought for.
Where we would say Rippling insteadIf you are exiting a PEO, or you want HR, IT and payroll to land in one system with device provisioning attached, Rippling is the stronger answer. We implement both, and our fee is set by your headcount band — identical on either platform — so the recommendation is about fit, not a sale.
What a build includes

Six things, on every HiBob engagement.

  • Core HR, time and absence configured to how you actually work
  • Permission architecture designed by role before anything is switched on
  • Compensation bands and review cycles set up to run without rebuilding
  • Integrations to identity, payroll, finance and your ATS
  • Data migration with a reconciliation you can check line by line
  • Admin enablement on your configuration, not a demo tenant
The full implementation scope

HiBob rewards a system designed around how the people team actually works, which is also how it goes wrong. Configured quickly against nobody’s requirements, it becomes a prettier version of the spreadsheet it replaced.

The compensation and review cycles are the part worth spending time on. They are genuinely strong, and they are also the hardest thing to retrofit once a cycle has already run on a structure that does not fit.

The AI layer on this platform

Bob Companion inherits your permission structure.

An assistant answering employee questions is exactly as safe as the field-level access behind it. Designed permissions make that useful. Defaulted ones make it a way for the wrong person to ask a chat box something they should not be able to see.

We audit permissions first, enable feature by feature rather than by master switch, and train the admins who will actually run it. Some things we turn on immediately. Some we recommend leaving off, and we say which.

Questions

What people ask about HiBob.

Do you specialize in HiBob?

Yes — HiBob is one of the two systems we implement most, and the team holds 8+ platform certifications across the systems we work in. We are not a reseller: what you pay HiBob is billed to you by HiBob, and our implementation fee is separate, set by your headcount band, and fixed before we start.

Why not just use HiBob's own onboarding team?

They configure the platform, and that part they do fine. What they don't do is decide how your company works first — approval chains, which records are the record, the permission architecture Bob Companion inherits — or stay after go-live to run what they set up. Their job ends at launch; ours starts before it and continues after. And our fee is set by your headcount band, identical on either platform, so nothing pushes us toward the defaults.

At what size does HiBob start to make sense?

Usually around 100 people, and it stays strong through 250. Below that the depth in compensation and analytics tends to go unused, and a simpler system does the job. We will tell you if you are early rather than sell you the ceiling.

How does HiBob handle payroll?

Through integration rather than as a single native engine everywhere, which is the main practical difference from Rippling. That is workable and extremely common, but it does mean the payroll join is a design decision you make deliberately rather than something that arrives already configured.

What about Bob Companion and the AI agents?

They inherit your permission structure, so an agent is exactly as safe as the field-level access behind it. We audit permissions before enabling anything and roll out feature by feature rather than by master switch. Platform capabilities here were last reviewed July 2026.

Can you fix a HiBob instance somebody else set up?

Yes. A rescue starts with an audit of permissions, data and the integrations nobody documented, then an honest answer about whether the fix is a repair or a rebuild inside the same tenant. You get that answer before you spend anything.
